HISTORY
Cleanfuel Energy derives it’s entrepreneurial spirit from our founder, Alan Steiden. His grandfather, William A. Steiden, purchased a small grocery store business in 1922, grew it to over thirty Kentucky locations, and then sold it to the regionally expanding Winn-Dixie network in 1945.
KENTUCKY BRED
Alan’s father, Dr. Bill A. Steiden graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1959, went directly to work for the Xerox Corporation and then tried his hand at buying and selling businesses before finding his true calling as a college economics professor at the University of Kentucky.

AIR SYSTEMS
Over the last 25 years, Alan has combined his grandfather's practical business sense with his father’s theoretical knowledge of macro-economic forces to become a sucessful businessman in his own right. Leaving his position as the Vice-President of Global Marketing for American Air Filter in 2005, he purchased Air Systems, LLC, the Ingersoll-Rand distributorship for Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Alan grew this opportunity from a $7MM business to a $35MM business, selling it to Ingersoll-Rand in 2024 for the largest compressor company sale in Kentucky’s history.

INDUSTRIAL EXPERTISE
During Alan's ownership tenure, the Air Systems, LLC service territory included over 120 large centrifugal compressor installations, valued over $1MM each, including multiple high-pressure gas transmission line utility compressor stations. "We embraced the responsibility that comes with big, high-profile projects," said Alan, "the professional and financial rewards always seemed to outweigh the risk."
LG&E CASE STUDY
Louisville Gas and Electric and Kentucky Utilities (LG&E and KU) serve over 1.3 million gas and electric customers across Kentucky and Virginia. As part of the PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL) family of companies, LG&E and KU set a goal to achieve a 70% reduction in CO2 emissions from 2010 levels by 2035 and an 80% reduction by 2040 to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. In order to assist LG&E and KU to meet these goals, Air Systems financed a $2MM environmental control "scrubber" and "soot blower" project for the Cane Run Generating Station. By suppling the financing, industrial equipment, engineering expertise, five-year preventive maintenance contract and cutting-edge remote monitoring software, Alan and Air Systems provided LG&E and KU with a one-stop-shop, environmentally-friendly solution.
